I’ve known Jonathan since we met during the Stanford University Graduate School of Business Executive Program for Nonprofit Leaders in Summer 2015 (thank you to the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation for that!). From then until 2025, Jonathan was a colleague, an advisor, a counselor and a friend. In mid-2025, after making the decision to leave my long-time role as CEO with the LA Conservation Corps, I reached out to Jonathan for his advice on what I should and could be doing to best prepare for my transition and to set up the Corps’ next leader for success. I knew the organization would benefit from outside support from an expert in nonprofit leadership transitions; I also knew that I could use Jonathan’s counsel, something I had grown to appreciate as I navigated challenges during my 11+ tenure as the Corps’ CEO.

I began working with Jonathan as a Transition Coach soon thereafter; we talked through communication (both internal and external), supporting the internal team, tools and resources I would develop to leave behind, etc. Jonathan was a sounding board and helped me navigate through roadblocks and unexpected turns; he supported me in ensuring that my transition mirrored my service up to that point and we devised strategies to pursue a smooth and graceful exit. While I wasn’t able to work as much as I would have liked with Jonathan, the time I had with him was a gift–I know I came out stronger and better in the end because of Jonathan’s counsel.

Jonathan listens with intention and compassion and he always seems to know just what to say to put my mind at ease. He always sees the good in me and ensures I don’t lose sight of my strengths and contributions. It’s hard to put into words the calming support and nurturing that Jonathan brings to his work. I feel beyond lucky to have crossed his path all those years ago and stayed in his orbit since. I’m a better leader and a better person because Jonathan is in my life and I look forward to continuing to learn from him and be his friend in the future.
